The Lincoln Historical Society together with the Lincoln Town Archives hosted a forum on digital archiving at Bemis Hall. Lincoln Town Archivist Marie Wasnock and Tom Blake, the Digital Projects Manager for the Boston Public Library, were featured speakers. Participants discussed the challenges and opportunities of putting historical records online with modern archival digitization technology and surveyed digital collections from the Lincoln Town Archives, the Boston Public Library, the Digital Commonwealth, and the Digital Public Library of America.
With today's technology, historians do not need to travel the world to do research on documents and images from many library and museum collections," observed archivist Marie Wasnock. "Plus, by digitizing historical records local civic groups can promote awareness of their cultural heritage for readers around the globe." "I had no idea these historical resources were so easily accessible over the internet," said Lincoln resident John Cowles.
