Lincoln Historical Society presents its program "Marriage is Taxing", a look into Britain's imposition of the Stamp Act on the American colonies. Lincoln attorney, author and humorist, Martha Lufkin, performs her original play, "Marriage is Taxing". This one-act comedy was inspired by the documented "stampede" to marry in the weeks before the Stamp Act took effect, as couples sought to avoid the impending tax on marriage certificates. The program also features Lincoln resident, Walter Bossert, as the Prime Minister of England, delivering a scathing rebuke to the rebellious colonies.
